Global Brands Pro-Am Series
I am delighted to announce the Global Brands Pro-Ams, two Pro-Am events that will bring a new concept to the golfing calendar, giving support to not only the local clubs but also the Egyptian Golf Federation and Egyptian Professional Golfers Association.
Especially exciting is the Global Brands Junior Pro-AM that will see junior players play alongside a Professional and 2 Amateur players towards the end of the season. |
Global Brands support 2010 Challenge Match
Part of the Global Brands support will be Main Sponsorship of the Challenge Match. Again we thank Global Brands for their support of both organizations, EGF and EPGA. Development of the EPGA is an important part of development of the game in Egypt. Competitive golf is a vital part of the EPGA and the Challenge Match has become an exciting incentive for players to compete and earn a place in the team. The Global Brands support will deliver a fantastic event I am sure in June.
New Era in National Team Support
For the first time next week our National Junior Team will be accompanied by our National Coach when they play in the Junior African Championships. I wish the best of luck to our junior players and hope that they enjoy the Championship.
Try Golf' Total Now 176 Following Mirage City Promotion
176 people have taken the exiting opportunity already this year and with the project set to continue throughout the year, the number of people attending a TRY GOLF class is likely to reach over 600.
The most exciting statistic is that from the 176 that have tried the sport for the first time, 126 of these have signed up and begun a beginner’s course of lesson at their preferred club. This conversion rate of 71% show how much the people are enjoying the golf session and wanting to learn. They have a have realized that golf is a fun and affordable sport for everyone.
The latest round of the EGF's 'Try Golf for Free' promotion took place at Mirage City on Friday 19th and Saturday 20th March. With a further 24 people taking advantage of this great opportunity the total number of people to try golf so far has now reached an impressive 176.
Golf Development Officer, Richard Phillips said "I know those who attended enjoyed their first taste of golf and I look forward to seeing them progress through the program. Hopefully their positive experience will lead to others wanting to learn the game too."

Jay Sohn of Mirage won a dozen Pro-V1 Titleist balls courtesy of Pro-Sports Dubai and Karim Wakid receives a dozen Srixon balls courtesy of Harriman Golf. Egypt Dressed to impress at African Junior Championship with Dockland
The Egyptian National Junior Team and Manager will be dressed in Dockland for both on course play and official ceremonies at the forthcoming African Junior Golf Team Championship. Ismail Seif El Nasr, of Dockland “Dockland is delighted to support the National Golf Team in this prestigious tournament. I know in recent months significant commitment has been made by the Federation in developing out players and teams and Dockland are proud to be part of this initiative”
The African Junior Championships will take place in South African from April 3rd to 8th 2010. The Junior Team will travel with the Team Manager and for the first time the National Coach giving the juniors the best support possible for a strong finish.
Adly wins EGF Order of Merit Event 5 – takes the Dreamland Men’s Open title by 4 strokes
Katameya members and National Squad member Mike Adly took the Dreamland Men’s Open title by an impressive 4 strokes from Alexandria’s Mamdouh El Sheikh. A first round 77 in challenging blustery conditions gave Adly joint lead with Katameya’s Bill Huckaby and Alexandria’s Sherif Sallam. A superb 2nd round 74 earned Adly the title and a 4 stroke victory over El Sheikh and Sherif Sallam.
Katameya member Ahmed Awn took the net title with two excellent rounds of 73 and 71, for a 144 winning total.

Stella Di Mare Golf Resort announced as 2010 Challenge Match venue
Stella Di Mare Golf Resort will host the 2010 Challenge Match. The event will take place on Friday 18th and Saturday 19th June 2010 over the popular Championship course at Stella Di Mare, Ein Soukhna. One of the highlights of the competitive season the match that sees the top 16 Amateur players will compete against the top 16 Professionals. The 2 day match boasts a team match play format with 8 four ball matches on day 1 and 16 singles matches on Day 2.
As in previous years the teams will be decide by the EPGA and EGF gross order of Merits. The top 12 players from the rankings will qualify automatically with the remaining 4 players being decided by Captains pick.

National Coach announces Egyptian Team for 2010 African Junior Team Championship.
National Coach Anne Le Coniat has announced the 4 person junior team to represent Egypt at the forthcoming African Junior Golf Championships to take place at the renowned Glendower Golf Facility in Johannesburg in South Africa from April 4th to 8th 2010.
Le Coniat “I am delighted to announce the team for the first significant Championship for our Junior Golf Team since I started working with the squad. Following their results in the recent Katameya Junior Open and their commitment to the junior coaching program I am proud to announce the tem to travel to African. They will be Ibrahim Wakid ( Katameya), Issa Abou El Ela and Mena Farid ( both Alexandria) and one of our younger talented juniors Hassan Said 9 Katameya).”
National Coach focuses on short game ahead of African Junior Golf Championship.

National Coach Anne Le Coniat made short game the focus of the latest National Coach session. With the National Juniors having their first full test since The Federation set up their National Coaching program with team competing in the 2010 African Junior Team Championship from April 4th - 8th 2010.Le Coniat put both squads through several days of short game focus each morning with on course shot selection and strategy each afternoon. |
The focus of the National Coaching is the World Amateur Team Championship in October with a full program in place to prepare for that Championship.
Hide Nishihira wins Dreamland Ladies Open in sudden death play-off with Sophie Issa.
On the first extra playoff hole, Hide Nishihira, won the Dreamland Ladies Open.
Playing the challenging 18th hole on the Championship course Nishihira defeated Katameya member Sophie Issa for her fist victory in an EGF Order Of Merit. Both players tied on a 36 hole total with 168. Third went to Maha Sennousi 173.
Best Net went to Sabine Repond with total net of 146, runner up was Nadia Ziwar 149 and third was Catherine Clark with 182.
In the Stableford category Heba de Maurissens took the top honors with 75 points. Runner up was Sohayia Bradford on 68 points. Third was Denise Augier with 66 points.

EGF Golf Manager Gerard Bent wins EPGA Event 3 at Alexandria Sporting Club.
With a 1 over par 71, Gerard Bent took event 3 in the 2010 EPGA season. In testing breezy conditions and a course set up with challenging pin locations, Bent beat Dreamland’s Fredrick Christenson by 1 stroke. In third place with 3 over par 73 was local Alex professional Ayman Mahmoud.
The win takes Bent to 3rd in the overall rankings. Burton, who managed tied 5th with 75 takes the leading spot on the rankings with a narrow margin over Christenson. Event 4 will take place at Mirage City on 20th April 2010. The EPGA OOM will decide the Egyptian Open spots in October.
Mirage win event 3 of the Ladies League at Mirage City
Mirage team earning 10 league points at event 3 in EGF ladies Golf League held at Mirage City with 168 stableford points while Katameya team earn 8 league points with score of 151 stableford points and Dreamland 6 points with score of 139 stableford points. Gezira earned 4 points with score of 130, as for Alexandria 0 points in events 3.
4 teams competed in the EGF ladies league round 3. The fourth event will take place at Alexandria Sporting Club on the 29th of April.
