Press Release

Maged improves on last year performance in US Kids final in Scotland…

6th June 2010

Final day and improves on last year performance.

The weather was warm and sunny and while the wind had changed direction once again it was not enough to influence the ball too much.

Maged made the same mistake on hole number one as on day two when he hit his second shot from a good lie into the front bunker. This unfortunately set the tone for the rest of the round which finished [] slightly disappointingly in 87 but none the less the improvements over the past 6 months in game were obvious and improves on last years placement.

Maged learned that he needs to alter his game to suit the the links course with very deep bunkers and greens that were all like upturned saucers, very similar to the Mena House but of a much larger size.

So basically when he needed a chip and run from short of the green or  a putt from just off the green he elected to use a lob or pitching wedge.  With the grass being short this made the wedge impossible to control. 18 was a typical example when his second shot ran off the side of the green and ended pin high down the slope. Maged opted for a wedge and just reached the green taking two more putts for a five.

As a result he finished with an 87 putting him 24th out of an entry of 42, a stronger finish position than last year.

However he did finish 4th in the International entry and a better finish would have had him playing in the " Ryder Cup "

However to keep things in context the boy who won his age group last year finished with a 77. Without exception we also have to bear in mind that Maged played his first competitive round of golf when he was 9 whereas the boys here have been playing from the age of four and five.. One boy in partiicular is a member of 9 different clubs and has a handicap of 3.
