Abou El Ela, El Sheikh, Scarello and Wakid to
play for Egypt…

Following a fascinating fourth qualifying round over the
Championship course at Dreamland, venue for the forthcoming African
Mens Team Championship from September 28th to October 2nd,
the four name team to represent Egypt has been decided.
With Amr Abou Ela selected for the event by the Egyptian Golf
Federation, it left for 3
players to be decided by 72 hole qualifying.
The format took the best 3 scores from 4 over the four rounds
for the individual total.
With Scarello and Shiekh comfortably clear with best 3 score
totals of 226 and 221 respectively, it left a titanic battle for the
3 rd qualifying spot. The 3 players in contention played together
over the final round with never more than a few shots separating the
players.
It was Marmaras that found himself with a 4 foot putt on the
final green to give him a 3 round total of 239, that would have
meant a 1 shot victory. However it was not be and when Wakid secured
an excellent par 4 at the last at a total of 240, it left a 3 way
tie for the qualifying spot with EL Shafei, Marmaras and Wakid all
tied on 240. It the event of a tie the fourth non counting score was
to be used and it was Wakid’s final round 83 that bettered El
Shafei’s 85 and Marmaras’s 84.
The following players therefore will play for Egypt in the Afican
Team Championship from September 28th to October 2nd:
Amr Abou El Ela
Mamdouh El Sheikh
Taymour Scarello
Ibrahim Wakid
