Kenya close gap on South Africa on Day 3, Abou
El Ela shoots best of the day, 69

Kenya closed the gap on South Africa today following a challenging
day for scoring over the Championship course at Dreamland Golf
Resort. A fair breeze which kept the temperature down also
contributed to higher scoring than in previous rounds. It was Kenya
that faired the best with three counting rounds of 71, 72 and 75.
South Africa had three counting rounds of 73, 73 and 74 to finish on
218 for the day and 646 for the Championship. They are 7 shots ahead
of Kenya on 653 and 27 shots ahead of Namibia and Zimbabwe, who are
tied for 3rd on 673 The Individual Championship is much closer
affair with two South Africans and a Kenya in contention to be
Champion. Kenyan Borniface Simwa, following a third round 71 takes a
2 shot lead over South Africans J G Claassen and Yubin Jung who shot
73 and 74 respectively. Simya’s 212 total, gives him that 2 shot
lead over the South African duo and team member Collins Ochieng of
Kenya. Round of the day went to Egypt’s Amr Abou El Ela, who, after
finding a driver that he felt comfortable with, shot a superb 69. It
took Abou El Ela from 34th in the individual rankings to 17th place.
Egypt’s other scores were Mamdouh El Sheikh – 78, Ibrahim Wakid – 81
and Taymour Scarello – 82. Egypt lies in 8th place with 1 round to
go. A strong final round could see them the reach the top 5 places.
