Issa Abou El Ela Rounds Off A Great Season By Becoming 2010 Egyptian Junior Open Champion

The 2010 Egyptian Junior Open took place on 14th and 15th May at Dreamland Golf Resort and proved to be a great success. The event, organized by the Egyptian Golf Federation, was supported for the first time by CSA (Community Services Association) and sponsored by McDonalds and Coca Cola.
Forty juniors, aged between 8 and 18, took part in the competition that was divided in to 5 age categories with the older age groups playing 36 holes over two days while younger players played 9 holes on the second day.
In the 18 and under gross category, Alexandria’s Issa Abou El Ela shot rounds of 71 and 82 for a total of 153 to claim first place and the title of 2010 Egyptian Junior Open Champion. The victory was a fitting end to the junior season for Issa who has reduced his handicap from 9 to 5, won the Mirage Junior Open and finished runner up in the 3 other junior opens this year giving him the ‘EGF Junior Player of the Year’ title. With rounds of 79 and 81 for a total of 160, Ibrahim Wakid of Katameya finished runner up in the category.
In the 18 and under net category, Hassan Fayed from Alexandria shot rounds of net 66 and 73 for a total of 139 to take first place. Hassan has also had a fantastic season and his fine performance this weekend secured him the title of ‘EGF Net Division Player of the Year’. Fellow Alexandrian, Mina Farid, took second place with a net total of 159.
Hassan Said of Katameya shot rounds of 85 and 81 for a 166 total to win the 15 and under gross category by 1 shot from Gezira’s Omar Mafouz.
Saphir Gohar of Katameya continued his fine form to win the 15 and under net category following rounds of net 69 and net 62 for an impressive total 131. Karl Marco took second place with a 148 total for the 2 rounds.
The younger juniors, without handicaps, played 9 holes from the EGF forward tees over the front nine of the Championship course. The 13 and under category was won by Arisa Kimura of Katameya with a 42 while Euan Morrison’s 46 gave him second place.
Four prizes were awarded in the 11 and under category due to the number of entries in this age group. Abdel Aziz Said fired an excellent one over par 37 to claim first prize while Soraya Scarello beat Ahmed Moselhy on a count back for second after both finished with scores of 40. Youssef Tarraf’s 43 proved to be good enough to give him fourth place.
In the 9 and under category a fine score of 40 from Fayrouz Hafez saw her take first place by just one shot from Hana Wael. Omar Moselhy received the third place prize after a 55.
